Chrissy Nickerson artist

Chrissy Nickerson was raised as an artist. She started her formal education as with Kris Katzan in primary school. She completed a semester in Florence and Calgary, but graduated from NSCAD with two degrees; Bachelor of Design, Environmental Planning affiliated with Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Primarily a landscape painter of Canada, she also holds an American passport with a summer studio practice in Maine. In Ontario she has a pop-up studio to paint interpretations of her latests canoe trips for her Eastern Galleries. In 2006, after 2 months at the Banff Centre Nickerson stayed in Alberta calling it her home.

The Artist has won awards including the Spot Light Award at the Mayor Awards in Canmore 2015, Award of Emerging Artist of the Year (2007) and the Best of the Bow for Best Local Artistmany times from 2013-23. Chrissy has participated in other self directed artist residencies as well, in 2008, the Ted Harrison Retreat in Carcross, Yukon in 2010, Gushul, Blairmore, 2021, The Annex, Castine Maine 2023.

Chrissy Nickerson is President of the Urban Forest Initiative Association in Alberta, a NonForProfit working towards. Greener Canada. As an artist, she has always drawn attention to issues of habitat, natural resources and our urban and rural planning. Through an optimistic gaze she continues the tradition of landscape painting through a personally contemporary approach.

Nickerson's work is large, bold and painterly. A tapestry of brush strokes and varied mark making glorifying paint in her own unique way.
